Went groundhog hunting today and had a blast. Saw 4 and shot all of them 106, 265, 270 and 266 yards. Kill spots and yardage are marked with white dots from left to right.
Was sitting there when a guy and his girlfriend came walking up thru the pasture field along the fence line. As they were walking up the shoulder strap on his rifle broke at the fore end and it smacked the ground hard right on the scope. I guess the damage was done but instead of reaching down and picking up the rifle he drug it up the hill a couple of feet and picked it up by the shoulder strap that was still attached to the butt of the rifle. They went on up the hill beside the fence and walked up on one of the groundhogs I had already killed. They looked at it a minute and then went on up the fence line to the top of the hill. They started up the top of the ridge and as they came to a fence the girl saw me and started pointing. He waived and I couldn't believe it, they continued to walk on out into the pasture about 100 yards from where I had shot two of the groundhogs (about 20 yards apart)and sat down under a tree. I'm on one ridge facing them and they are on the opposite ridge facing me. I decided to leave but was determined if they were going to act like that I was going to go get close up's of the groundhogs I had killed.
I marked their route in yellow and circled in the photo where they sat down. The purple is where they crossed the fence and first saw me. I marked my route (more or less) in red as I went to get close up photos. The owners son had told them that there was already someone up there hunting but they went anyway. He said he expected them to decide not to go up there when he told them someone was already up there. I would never have gone in there if they told me someone was already in there hunting. Some people just have no common sense.
I doubt he hit anything after dropping his rifle like he did though. LOL.
